The old way of thinking about fiberglass needs to be undone. Although R-value is important, the value we think we need to do the job of insulating is inaccurate. The scale of R-values is high because the loss of performance we experience when we need it most. We do not realize the fluctuation in performance of other insulation products. You do not need as much foam as you need fiberglass to reach the appropriate R-value to insulate your home from the outdoor elements<\/strong> (temperature, wind, moisture and radiant heat).<\/p>\n

Air leakage is not an issue that some insulation manufactures like to bring up. The reason for this is that air leakage can dramatically affect the R-value of certain insulations. The R-value measures a material\u2019s thermal resistance ability but does not account for air leakage.<\/p>\n

Products can have a stated R-value in an ideal environment, but when an air leakage is created that R-value can be radically reduced. What this means for the consumer in reality is that the product manufactures labeled R-value may not be anywhere near accurate.<\/p>\n
